About Megan

Megan Farison is a speaker, musician, educator, and author. Her memoir, Dissonance, became an Amazon Bestseller in multiple categories upon its release in November, 2024. Author Stephen Mills (Chosen: A Memoir of Stolen Boyhood)) describes Dissonance as, “A courageous and riveting exploration of childhood sexual trauma, and how it reverberates into adulthood with devastating consequences.” Megan has been a voice coach and choir director for nearly twenty years—her energetic teaching style incorporates a blend of vocal and choral pedagogy that empowers the individual singer as well as the ensemble.

Megan taught for ten years at secondary schools throughout Michigan and Indiana, leading choral programs and directing theatrical productions. In winter of 2022, she served as the Interim Choir Director at Saginaw Valley State University, where she also provided private voice instruction. In addition to her teaching experience at the elementary, secondary, and collegiate levels, Megan has been a District Manager for MSVMA (Michigan School of Vocal Music Association) and a Board Member for ISSMA (Indiana State Music School Association), Secretary of ACDA-Michigan and President of the Central Michigan University Choir Alumni Association. In 2021, she founded the Lux (borrowed from the Latin lüx meaning "light") Women's Community Choir, which is now in its fourth season. She is the host of Sing, Coach, Conduct, a podcast for musicians and music educators, with guests such as Dr. Jerry Blackstone, Andrea Ramsey, and Roger Emerson. Megan holds a Master's in Music Education from Central Michigan University.

Megan is Co-Founder of the coaching business Give Her the Pen, which helps women to heal and thrive through writing. At Give Her the Pen, we believe that when you write your story, you get to own the ending.
